Rainfall data log: traceability and accuracy for port logistics

We record operational shutdowns due to rain with minute precision, ensuring technical verification and greater security in port management.

Introduction

In port logistics, every minute counts. For water-sensitive cargo, such as grains and fertilizers, rain can completely disrupt operations, generating delays and additional costs. Ensuring reliable records from sensors, with full traceability, is essential to avoid trade disputes and ensure operational transparency.

Challenge

In the port logistics sector, there was no technology to accurately record periods of downtime due to rain. Monitoring was done manually, subject to human error and divergent interpretations, making technical verification difficult and increasing the risk of commercial disputes.

Solution

Cittua implemented a rain occurrence report with minute-to-minute accuracy, based on sensor data collection and artificial intelligence analysis calibrated with machine learning. The system ensures full traceability and provides technical proof of downtime, protecting contracts and strengthening operational efficiency.

Daily rainfall report with minute accuracy for port logistics

We transform weather data into accurate daily reports that confirm rain-related shutdowns at port terminals.

In port logistics, time is money and so is safety. In operations that move water-sensitive cargo, such as grains, fertilizers and other products that cannot come into contact with rain, every minute of downtime needs to be accurately recorded. Until recently, this monitoring was done manually, subject to human error and divergent interpretations, which opened the door to commercial disputes and compromised operational efficiency.

Wilson Sons, the largest port operator in Latin America, sought to offer even greater value to its customers. To this end, it decided to partner with Cittua, integrating hyper-accurate weather records into its WS Connect platform. The goal was to provide reliable, automated and auditable data on periods of downtime due to rain, strengthening transparency and trust in port operations.

Cittua has developed a unique method for generating rainfall reports with minute accuracy. We use data from sensors such as weather radars, satellites and rain gauges, applying advanced Digital Image Processing techniques and Machine Learning to identify the rainfall that directly impacted each port terminal. Before going into operation, the method underwent several validation stages to ensure complete reliability and was then transformed into a clear and auditable daily report.

The impact was immediate. With the new solution, Wilson Sons now provides its customers with accurate proof of rain-related shutdowns via WS Connect, eliminating doubts and reducing commercial disputes. In addition to protecting contracts and increasing transparency, the report provides strategic data for logistics planning, enabling faster and more assertive decision-making. The result: greater confidence, greater efficiency, and safer port operations.
